In 2008, conveyer developed a renovation project for a residential building under construction near Sofia, situated on a small rectangular plot. The program combines residential use with an art workspace (9.5 × 9.5 m, height 6 m). The studio is designed with solid windowless walls, while diffuse natural light enters through a continuous roof slot made of polycarbonate panels.
The intervention focuses on maximizing the integration of interior spaces and creating a new, cohesive façade concept. The primary structural scheme was preserved, with modifications establishing the basis for a comprehensive interior design. The selected approach interprets the building as a “container” with a solid black envelope. The partial “opening” of one façade reveals the building’s core and integrates metal elements—a balcony, entrance canopy, and an external staircase leading to a usable flat roof. The project experiments with materials and technologies, including corrugated Ondulin sheets, a gabion fence, and a system of steel cables for climbing vegetation. The building has a total floor area of 460 sq m.
