Conveyer office
CONVEYER OFFICE
co-working loft space in a former factory
Architectural studio conveyer is located in the former confectionery factory in Zone B18 in Sofia. In the summer of 2007, Ivan Dragoshinski came upon the building which was being reconstructed. Right away, we appreciated the potential of one of the halls on the second floor, in spite of its terrible condition back then. The space with size of 7 x 14 m and height 4 m perfectly met our needs and our ideas of an architectural office. The construction comprising massive reinforced concrete frames, high windows with metal profiles and the industrial concrete floor created a Bauhaus atmosphere – the exact opposite to the trivial shiny offices in new blocks of flats with small rooms which are 2,60 m high. We realized that if we wanted to complete the place to our liking, we have to take care of the repairs not only financially, but also in terms of completion. And that is what we did. The repairs took more than seven months and needed enormous resources in every sense. Our main idea was to keep the space as open as possible, and that is why the office design involved tearing down all load-bearing walls and constructing an internal box, container, where we organized a meeting room, a kitchen box and a toilet. The container was made of a metal construction with a cladding of black hydrophobic plywood. The floor features epoxy self-leveling flooring. The furnishing includes tables which we designed and made ourselves, standard office chairs and industrial metal racks. The whole electric installation is visible on purpose, in order to emphasize the industrial character of the office. We moved in January 2008, and we were the only tenants in the whole factory.
The open plan work space that we organized is also an expression of the way in which we try to work. And namely – both small and big jobs are important to us, each of them is worked on and discussed collectively. The opinions of all the participants in the work process, no matter what their experience and position in the company, are of equal significance. We try to find out in tasks the potential which gives satisfaction to the client and freedom to us. Thus, the name of our formation – conveyer - born as a reaction to the processes in Bulgarian architecture in recent years, was naturally complemented by the industrial character of the office space.
